The lace pattern is reminiscent of pine cones she might have seen on her path to Grandma’s house. The cowl is knit from the bottom up in an easy-to-memorize lace pattern, then split for the hood and worked flat. Alternately you could continue working the lace for the entire cowl, finishing with 5 ridges of garter stitch.
