Description

By special guest designer Sara Epplin!

Stellifera (Latin for “star-bearing”) uses the magic of assigned pooling together with the star stitch and a sweeping asymmetrical shape to capture the look of a dark night sky lit by the star-bearing Milky Way galaxy.

Starting and ending with a tonal colorway, the middle is worked in a vibrant colorburst colorway for special stitch flashes of pooled color. The result is a shawl that keeps things lively with 'stars' popping up as the stitches unfold.

Yarn: Yarn: 2 skeins of Wonderland Yarns “Cheshire Cat,” light fingering, 100% superwash merino, 1 skein each Color A and B; shown in “Raven” (Color A) and “An Inkling of Something Brilliant” (Color B)

Hooks & Notions: US F-5/3.5mm hook (or size needed to meet gauge); US G-6/4.0mm hook for slst rows (or one size larger than size needed to meet gauge); darning needle; stitch marker to mark RS of fabric

Gauge: 19 sts x 10 rows = 4"/10 cm in dc (exact gauge is not crucial, but will alter size and drape of the shawl if tighter or looser)

Measurements: 30"/76 cm x 78"/18 cm x 64"/163 cm blocked

Techniques: Magic Ring, working with assigned pooling yarn, blocking
